Hello, I’m Katie Freeman

The “Why“

Working with your hands is good for the soul. I feed my soul by sculpting wood using an angle grinder and various attachments along with a small rotary tool and an orbital sander to bring it to final smoothness.  Utilizing a variety of clothing dyes, I dye the wood a bright, bold and vibrant color.  On pieces with unique voids, I use a plant-based epoxy resin to fill the void and provide stability to the piece.  I will often color tint the resin or add glow-in-the-dark powder to  add an additional point of interest to the completed piece of furniture, home décor, lighting, sculpture, or wall art.

I don’t believe furniture and other home items need only to serve their intended function.  I think they can also be a piece of art without affecting the functionality.  I use bold colors in my pieces as a way to encourage myself and others to be bold in their truth, and to not only embrace it, but to shout it from the rooftops in unison, “We will not be silenced.”

The deeper mission

I am a self-employed Artist/Designer/Maker and Content Creator. I am deeply passionate about building my own skillset in designing and making while encouraging others to begin their own making journey. I produce content such as DIY tutorial blogs, YouTube videos, and soon will be hosting a weekly podcast. I strongly believe that all of this information should be available for free to whom ever needs to consume it to strengthen their own journey as an artist, designer, and/or maker. I would greatly appreciate your consideration to becoming a Patron with a monthly pledge to help me sustain the output of content to help enrich as many people as possible. There are several tier options, starting at just $1 a month, and they all come with their own reward. Check out more about becoming a Patron on my Patreon page here.

I envision helping to create a community of makers that is fully inclusive of all who feel called to make or work with their hands. I aim to especially reach out to fellow Mom’s and members of the LGBTQ community who often face a high stress environment or situation on a regular basis. Working with your hands and getting into a rhythm of movement while making something solely of your own creation can not only be stress relieving, but also liberating.

Giving back

As a means to help support and build my local community, 10% of every sale will be put aside to be part of a larger donation at the end of the year to the Domestic Violence Intervention Program in Iowa City, Iowa.
