1.      Please introduce yourself

I’m Angela and I’ve been married for 13 years and I have 3 kids.  They’re 9, 4, and 1. And I stay at home with them, I used to do communications and marketing, but I stay at home.  In my 13 years of marriage we’ve lived in 5 states and like 9 homes, we’ve moved around a lot. I think we’re kind of settled here in Las Vegas.

Woo!  Another few whirlwind days under my belt.  First day of a new daycare for my youngest was yesterday and she had a great day!  Big tears at drop off but when my son and I went to pick her up she didn’t want to go home!  And this morning, no tears at all at drop off.  Good sign for sure and lowers this mama’s anxiety level.  Tonight, is ice cream social at my son’s school a couple of days before his first day of Kindergarten.

Sorry I have been MIA the last couple of days.  I have been spending time with the family, much needed time since the last few weeks have been kind of crazy busy.  This is also a big time of change for our little family.  We are preparing for our oldest to start Kindergarten this week as well as our youngest to start a new day care.  This will not only be a change of scenery but a change of time schedule and everything.

Today I had the awesome pleasure to do an interview with Jenny from Sacred Cinder about being a Mom, a Maker and an Entrepreneur.  See below for the full interview, as well as an audio recording of the conversation.

1.      Please introduce your self

I’m Jenny from Sacred Cinder and I’ve been making and creating things out of wood for 4 years now.  I am a proud Mom and a proud Wife. And I love wood crafting.

2.      How Long have you been a maker and how did you get started?

4 years exactly, August 9th. Well the reason I started making, I was working full time at an oral surgeon while I had my first son. When we got pregnant with our second son we made an agreement that I was going to be a stay at home mom. So I had my second son, weeks start going by, everything’s fine, but I’m bored out of my mind. I just needed something inside my head besides changing diapers, feeding my baby, you know, Mom things. So I was like I need something else going on.

Today I have been doing a lot of thinking about “momming” or the “mom life”.  So, what really started me on wanting to create this daily blog, besides hopefully inspiring Mom’s to get out and create or start a business or both, was to provide a bite size read for Mom’s with littles 5 and under. Why? For one that’s me.  For two, I have really just been noticing a lot lately when I take our littles out to kid friendly places I see the kids playing and the Mom’s reading on their phone.  Now I used to be the first to judge this action, until I had my second kiddo.

So, first of all, a HUGE thank you to all of the friends who visited me during the pop-up this weekend and provided support through hugs, smiles, and a few purchases.  Having the support of my friends and family is what helps keep me motivated.  Also, a big thank you to West Elm for giving me the opportunity of a pop-up shop by hosting it.  This was my first pop-up and I know I will be able to evaluate the lessons learned and leverage them to see improvement over the next several months.

Yesterday was a bit of a long day at the store.  I did sell two items, 1 set of coasters, and 1 glow-in-the-dark necklace to an ecstatic little girl.  I’m not going to lie, I am a little disappointed that I did not sell any more then that.  However, it was still a good learning experience and good practice.  Gave me a chance to work on skills of dealing with customers and just the general public.  I also had the opportunity to catch up a bit with a few friends who stopped in to check it out in the morning.  It was really nice getting to see them and so nice for them to make it down to support me.

Whoa!  I went MIA there for a few days, sorry about that.  I have been running around a bit like a chicken with its head cut off scrambling to get everything done for the pop-up shop at West Elm in Des Moines, that starts today!  So, I have received questions from a number of friends and family on what a Pop-up shop is.  Thought maybe I could explain it here, because if they are asking, I’m sure there are plenty of others who do not know what it is.

Lots to do, but that’s not really anything new right?  I mean all Mom’s, heck, all parents are busy.  We all have kid stuff, spouse stuff, house stuff, work stuff that we go through day after day.  Rinse, wash, and repeat!  I think the important thing is that during all of the rush, rush, rush of our daily routines we make sure that there’s stuff we can sit back and appreciate and enjoy.

So today started with my daughter (youngest little) getting up way before 6 AM, which definitely makes getting ready for the day much more difficult.  Never the less, I succeeded.  Got the kids dressed, “first breakfast” packed to be consumed on the trip to daycare. Managed a second day in a row getting to daycare without any major fits or tantrums.
