Episode 209 – Scout Cartagena
Scout is a multidisciplinary artist, practicing crafts such as printmaking, glass, and audio and video work. She draws from mental health and her personal narrative as a queer black woman to create a strong thread of representation in larger compositions and forms of installation. Her work reflects on family, memory, mental health and chronic illness. In her early 20’s she was diagnosed with a rare auto-immune disorder. With each year, she loses parts of her memory and mobility, all increasing the urgency to create work that is tangible.
